Celeb Shoe Spotlight: Madonna’s Killer Heels

Madonna sparked controversy wearing these gun-heeled Chanel platform shoes to the premier of her film Filth and Wisdom in New York last night.  Chanel’s designer Karl Lagerfield was inspired by an image of a gunfor the label’s 2009 mid-season Cruise collection.  The ‘Miami Vice’ shoe, originally made of actual gun casings, was first seen on runways, but the Chanel designs are made out of plexiglass.  This shoe will be sold worldwide.  Daily Mail Reporter calls these shoes a fashion faux pas and thinks that Madonna will be accused of insensitivity and glamorising gun crime.  I tend to think it’s a daring but spot-on fashion statement - she wanted to shock people, and I think she succeeded.

What do you think of these daring shoes: yay or nay?

Shoe Trend Report: Milan’s Sky-High Wedges

Spring 2009 Milan saw a plethora of wedge heels on the runway, meaning wedges will be popular yet again.

Salvatore Ferragamo invented the wedge, but Dolce and Gabbana and D&G played the most with the form this season.  Fendi, Marni, Moschino and Frankie Morello got in on the play too.

In The Shoes Of Amy Winehouse

Despite recent substance abuse issues and erratic behavior, Amy Winehouse is still a style muse to designers such as Karl Lagerfeld, Roberto Cavalli and Giorgio Armani.  Her rough-retro look, with her beehive ‘do and trademark ballet shoes, makes her the ideal modern pin-up girl.  I love these hand-painted “Zap” platform pumps by Terry de Havilland.  Pick up a pair to wear with your skinny jeans.

Shoe designer Jonathan Kelsey (who Shoeminx dubbed Louboutain deux), who designed the “Amy” pump in tribute, is definitely on her list of fans.

While most of Amy Winehouse’s fashion statements might be too much for most to pull off, her riotous footwear is rockable by all.  See more of Amy’s shoe style on Showbiz’s slideshow.
